Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day to celebrate all the amazing and inspirational women in our lives, as well as think about how we can #ChooseToChallenge the inequalities women all over the world are still facing. We caught up with Mary Quinn to find out what she loves about engineering, and the woman who inspires her most.
What is your role at Apex Consulting?
I’ve been in my role as a Director for a year, after working my way up through the business from a role as a Graduate Engineer back in 2011.
What is your favourite project that you have worked on at Apex Consulting?
It’s impossible to choose as they are all so different and challenging in their own way! Helping to deliver Altus House, which is currently tallest building in Yorkshire, is a great source of pride. There is nothing quite like seeing one of your designs come to life from the ground up!
Which woman inspires you most, and why?
It’s Mother’s Day soon so who better than my mum? She has always encouraged me in whatever I choose to do, and I think this is where my work ethic comes from.
What would you say to young women thinking about a career in engineering?
It’s great to see more women entering the engineering and construction industry and I would encourage any young woman to consider this as a career path. The opportunities are so varied there really is something for everyone.
